Because iOS found no clear foreground subject in that photo. The cutout works well on a person or an object clearly separated from the background; it fails on a landscape or a scene with no obvious foreground. Try another photo, or a less tightly cropped version of the same one.

Worth knowing too: subject lifting does not run in the iOS Simulator. On a real iPhone it does.

In your iPhone settings: your name at the top, then Subscriptions. Cancelling goes through Apple, not through the app; we have no access to your subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged again.

Open the app, go to the about page (the i button at the top left of the home screen) and tap "Restore purchases". You need to be signed in with the same Apple ID used to buy it.

Layers snap to the frame's centre and margins, and to other layers: a red guide appears while a snap is engaged. To place text just beside a guide, move away a little and come back; the magnet only takes hold in the last few pixels.

To move the photo rather than a text layer, tap an empty part of the frame: the photo becomes the selected object, a red border confirms it, and dragging moves it even from under a headline.

Select a text layer, open the brush in the bottom bar, and tap "+". The style (face, colour, shadow, outline, block, caps) is saved without the words, and stays available in every later project.
